How far along? 28 weeks.
How big is baby? Almost 15 inches and 2.25 lbs. About the size of a large eggplant.
Total weight gain: +18 lbs. Aka: I can start throwing around the phrase “I’m carrying an extra 20 pounds!” now as an excuse. “What? YOU try putting on pants with a 20 pound bowling ball strapped to your stomach!”
Updates: THIRD TRIMESTER! I cannot believe I’m here. I made it to the third trimester! I’ve started thinking about project trajectories for the next 3 months until I’m on maternity leave and how to make sure all loose ends are tied up. WHAT. I can’t possibly be thinking about that already. Starting (hopefully) weekly visits to the chiropractor next week to help with my hip and back pain. And bi-weekly doctor visits start in a few days.
Anxious about: All the decisions to be made about this summer – mostly commitments we need to decide whether to make (nothing big, just stuff like having a garden or not, joining the CSA again or not, etc). I just don’t know what to expect in having a second child, especially this particular child. I was able to adjust fairly quickly with Gabe, but I know every baby (and adding a new kid) is a new ballgame. What if I never emerge from my apartment for weeks and we subsist on Cheerios? You just never know what to expect.
Excited about: Winter ending. No one likes weather talk, but dude. ENOUGH, WINTER. You’ve had your turn!
Feeling: Gigantic. I am definitely larger than I was with Gabe – my belly with him was lower and more compact, I think. Like a little basketball. (See here.) Now it’s like a giant pillow is in my shirt. I’m having a hard time getting full breaths when I lie down or lean back, as well. Not sure if it’s because I’m so short and everything is getting jammed together already or if I’m just dying.
Exercise: Prenatal yoga is my BFF – it, along with hot baths, helps ease my hip and back pain. I’ve started doing some weight lifting (sounds more hardcore than it is), since my ability to do push ups or planks is getting pathetic.
Sleep: In-som-nee-uh. In my bed. Every night. Be there or be well-rested. As I told Mike, “I don’t need my body to prepare me for sleepless nights. Just let me sleep NOW and then I can deal with it when it comes in three months!”
Movement: Crazy active. Just like with Gabe, I never have to go long without feeling a kick or roll or hiccup. It’s keeping me up at night, but I’m so grateful for the reassurance.
Food cravings: Fruit. I wish it was watermelon season!
Misc:
- Ketchup gives me heartburn now. So that’s great.
- I miss sleep. That is all.

You do look like you are just smuggling a basketball under your shirt in the Gabe picture. STILL, 28 weeks with baby number two and you are looking great!
I always wonder how I will carry my future babies. I’m already short and with a short torso. My babies will have no where to go, and I will fall over by the end.

Oh man, I used to eat a minimum of a watermelon a week when pregnant with Margaret. Sometimes two!

I think you look so cute in this picture! You’re definitely bigger than with Gabe, but you have like this perfectly round baby bump. So cute.

You look great! I remember that out of breath feeling – it was the worst! I hope you’re able to get some quality sleep soon!
