This a day in my life…yesterday, in fact. I enjoyed Ginger’s and wanted to play along!
7:30: Awake. Mike is already awake and doing schoolwork. He brings Gabe to bed. My favorite. Nurse while locking eyes with my sweet sleepy baby. He’s done and bounds across the bed immediately. So full of energy, this one.
7:50: Check email, check Twitter.
7:54: Ah! Gabe is calling Chrissy, my housemate from college I haven’t talked to in months. I grab the phone, but it’s gone to voicemail. She texts me back and we text for half an hour while I get things ready for Mike’s day. Pack lunch for Mike. Make coffee. Make Mike’s breakfast.
8:19: Mike and Gabe eat oatmeal with peanut butter. :) Every morning.
Fix my cup of coffee (lots of organic half and half and a splash of pumpkin spice syrup, please).
Mike gets ready to go, pumps up his bike tires. We follow him out to the elevator to say goodbye. Gabe is obsessed with crawling down the hallway, so I let him.
Ask Gabe to choose between cereal or oatmeal for our breakfast (second breakfast for Gabe). Cereal.
Eat cereal on the floor.
8:39: Compulsively check on the status of my Erin Condren planner. Aka: My birthday present to myself.
8:43: Update budget. Spotify. Zee Avi. Coffee. Ahh, morning.
8:47: Gabe crawls over to my chair and looks up at me with his sweet, big eyes. Who am I to refuse a baby his mama? :) I scoop him up. Play in front of the fan in our bedroom, making silly noises and laughing. Then plop him on my lap while I finish with the budget. Nurse while I work on the computer.
9:15: While washing my hands, I skim one of those free parenting magazines that somehow find you after you have a kid and read that Go the F to Sleep has a movie deal. Google that. Wonder what the heck the movie would be about.
Play with Gabe. Read books with him.
9:24: Make to do list.
9:36: Time for a nap! Change Gabe’s sheet for the second time. Ever. (His diaper fell off last night, so we’re pretty sure he peed in his bed. Yay babies!) Try to nurse him. Nope.
9:40: Give up on putting Gabe to bed. Put him in his crib and leave. He lays back against his pillow.
Do investment stuff. Lots and lots and lots of investment in stuff like Investing ideas from EasyFinance . Open four CDs, per direction of my father (my own personal financial planner). Transfer money between accounts. Deposit checks. Pay electric bill (34 dollars! yesss)..
10:36: Email. Heat up second cup of coffee (and will do so two more times, but never actually finish the cup).
Design, print, and cut party things – signs for the elevators, outside, activity, and food tags. Four more days till Gabe’s birthday party!
11:16: Email. Twitter. plus the Westline Electrical Services for regular maintenance
11:27: Ready to fold diapers that I hung last night outside. Settle in with some Food Network on Hulu.
11:29: Uh, never mind. I stink. Shower. Ahhhh. So relaxing.
11:36: Fire alarm! Damn. This has happened two other times. Both times while I had super hot showers and left the bathroom door open. Go in to Gabe’s room. He is awake and concerned. I am soaking wet. I pick him up and wait till it stops.
11:50: Get back in the shower, now with Gabe. He plays on the floor of the tub while I finish showering, then I give him a quick scrub.
Get ready to go to the store. Clean baby.
My summer uniform. Doesn’t he look huge next to me?
Our lunch: polenta with cheese and tomato sauce. Yummy.
12:45: Leave for the store. Plan to finish party shopping.
I plan to take advantage of this up until Gabe turns one. Despite the stink eye another family gave me. WHAT? He is an infant!
When we left our apartment, these sandals were on his feet. When we arrived at BJs, they were in his lap. Hmm.
Lots and lots and lots of shopping. Five different stores. Gabe pees through his diaper after the first store, and I have no diaper bag, of course. I am terrible mom and force him to stay out. He lives. And is happy about it, strangely.
3:00: Going home. Gabe falls asleep on the way home, screwing any chance we had for an afternoon nap.
Try anyway. He doesn’t want to nurse, so I plop him in his crib and start unpacking all the food:
(Our apartment supplies carts to bring our stuff in from our cars. Awesome, right?)
4:00: Gabe is done sleeping. Strap him on my back and cook three dozen vanilla cupcakes and a tray of brown butter salted rice krispie treats. He gets annoyed so I put him down.
Also, while I cook, Gabe discovers he loves marshmallows. A lot.
He makes the apartment a bigger mess while I clean up and freeze all the cupcakes.
Screw cleaning. Spend lots of time playing with Gabe. Tell him a thousand times how much I love him. Try to teach him the word, “Kiss.” Laugh with him. A lot.
6:11: Realize the CSA pick up is almost over. Freak out. Throw on pants. Dress Gabe. (We like to chill pantless in this abode.) Throw him in his stroller and head out to walk the half-mile to get our goods.
6:40: On the way home, he falls asleep. Of course. And Mike rides up behind us as we arrive at our apartment. Apologize for the house being a mess, but tell him all I got done.
Eat dinner (well, a little. My dinner was mostly desserts I was baking. Oops.). Talk about our days and child care tomorrow.
7:40: Nurse Gabe and put him in his crib.
Make a second batch of the rice krispie treats. Freeze the first batch. Eat one, of course. Birthday parties for kids is an amazing experience, next year I will try one of these.
Run the dishwasher and clean the kitchen.
9:00: Edit photos and blog. Tell myself only an hour.
10:45: Bed.

I really like when people do a day in their life or “what’s in my bag” type posts. So interesting! And you backing 5 dozen cupcakes at the end of your day?! Rockstar. So excited to see pics from Gabe’s first birthday party!

Fun! It’s always interesting to see a glimpse of another person’s day. I just ordered an Erin Condren too! SO EXCITED. How long ago did you order yours?
Ashley says
Last Thursday! :) It’s not supposed to ship until next Thursday, which seems like sooo long. Patience.

I absolutely love this post :)

I love posts like this :) I ordered my Erin Condren lifeplanner on August 10th, they shipped it on the 23rd, and it’s supposed to be here on Tuesday – but I still log in and check on it multiple times a day. Just in case something changes. The word book Gabe is looking at is Topher’s absolute favourite book – we “read” it at least twice before bed every single day. I wish he’d pick a book that was actually a story book, but oh well. How tall is Gabe? :) Topher comes up past my hip when he’s standing up (I’m 5’2” ish). Craziness.

Around 30 inches – and I am 5’1″ – so that means he’s HALF MY HEIGHT.
Oh my.

first of all – i can’t belive you just “put him in the crib” and he goes to sleep, no fuss no muss. ummm, i hate you? lol

This was so fun to read! Gabe is so fricken adorable. How is he turning 1?! HOW?!?! Love this idea for a blog post!

You have Gabe trained much better than I have trained Gavin. My G will not hang out in his crib, unless he’s sleeping … and hates being put in the carrier, unless we’re going somewhere! Lucky you!
Love the day in your life!

is that a familiar name I spy on your to-do list ? ;)

Great posts. It always fun to see how other people arrange their time. Mine is often spent cleaning up after the kids. They are always really good at making messes. lol
