I’m trying to care more about how I dress (shopping from my closet more than getting new clothes, as is my style) and I’m trying to post every day this month, so I decided to show you guys what I wear sometimes. On Wednesdays we wear pink, I’ll be participating in Dress for the Day You Want in an effort to branch out from my clothing rut a bit and try new combinations. I really love to see what others wear so I can get new ideas for combinations of items I already have, so I thought I’d do the same.
If you read this blog, you’ll know I am neither a clotheshorse nor a fashionista. I get dressed up four days a week for work (which is at a high school, so it’s not business attire, but still nicer than yoga pants and hoodies – my home uniform). My smaller wardrobe has forced me to be more adventurous in my clothing choices, since I only have so many boring items in the collection.
I feel more confident and happier when I am put together instead of just grabbing two items from my closet in the dark at 6:30 in the morning. It’s become a fun part of my evening to choose what I will wear to work the next morning. Don’t get me wrong, I still relish coming home and changing into yoga pants, but it’s so good for my self-esteem and sanity to actually care about myself enough to like what I’m wearing. I’m worth it. Even I, the least fashionable, stylish person I know, is worth spending a few minutes to pick out an outfit.
Okay, enough waxing poetic on clothing. Here’s what I wore:
Dress: Forever 21 (just got it 2 months ago, but it’s already gone from their site!)
Boots, Tights, Cardigan: Target
Belt: Urban Outfitters (via Gabriel Brother’s)
Earrings: some Peruvian artist at the Yellow Springs Street Fair
I love the belted look, but I’m only just beginning to explore wearing a belt OVER a cardigan for maximum belt awesomeness. I love this dress (my first Forever 21 purchase, actually), even though I was a little worried it was too baggy on top. Nothing a belt can’t fix! Plus, it has pockets.
These pictures are fairly awful because we were gone all day and didn’t get home until after dark (hence the mascara raccoon eyes). Next time, I promise to find some beloved natural light!

Fun! This is basically a take on my winter uniform. Comfy, cute, cozy, CHECK!

you are adorable and right on track with the way clothes can change our mindset about ourselves! i think the best part about getting “Dressed” is changing into PJs when you’re done and feeling good about the way the cozy switches the gears in your head, says you accomplished a lot today – now rest.
SO glad you found us. keep the pictures coming! that dress is super cute.

Love your outfit! I’ve never tried the belted cardigan look, but am inspired to now. I love the idea of “shopping your closet”, as I tend to get swayed by wanting to buy new items as well.

Such a good idea! I recently dug out old items in my closet and but a little effort into actually making an “outfit” and I have been getting tons of compliments at work or even the grocery store. It really adds a little pep to your step to dress up a little!

I love the belted cardigan look! And I’m happy more “regular” bloggers (i.e. not fashion bloggers) are doing posts about what they wear. It inspires me!

If you are not fashionable then my eyes need looking at. You were SO fashionable in Nola. I loved every outfit you wore.

I love the belt over the cardigan! I’ve wanted a belt like that for a while. Mine are all pretty boring.

You look SO much like Gabe in that last photo. I just had to point that out because I found it really striking.

Love this!! Are those the wedged boots? I need a pair and like yours but can’t decide. I’ve only looked online so far.

Love this idea – and LOVE your outfit!

I’ve also been trying to have more style lately. I don’t ever want the word “fashionable” applied to me because that word feels heavy and high-maintenance, but I like the idea of having a personal style (other than comfortable and inexpensive). I’ve found that wearing dresses automatically moves the style meter up several notches–lucky us! You look great here. Thanks for sharing.

Very cute outfit! I go back and forth- some days I’ll put effort into what I wear and other days I just throw something on haha, I must seem very random to people at work. I am actually just starting to get into wearing belts and have not yet tried the belt over cardigan look, I like it though!

That’s an adorable outfit–but then you look adorable in yoga pants and sweatshirts!! That little red elephant in the lower right corner thinks you’re hot! :-)

So very cute. I like the colors combination that you chose. I’m starting to get into the belt over the cardigan look. It definitely helps to pull things together and make the outfit look less “blocky”.

I keep trying to post more fashion on my blog, but this is such a nice way to combine minimalism and fashion. Plus it’s really cute!!

Thanks! It’s fun. I was surprised by what a great reaction it’s gotten since I’m SO not a fashion blogger!
