I am not an animal print person. It just never felt like me. I could admire it on other people, but on me? Nope. Much like tattoos or stilettos, I just couldn’t pull it off. NOT YOU! it always seemed to scream. Stop trying!
Last month, though, I was trying every item of clothing on at LOFT that was in my size from the sale racks (which were an extra 40% off), so I grabbed this skirt. I assumed I wouldn’t get it, but might as well try it on, right? Plus, I was designing Lexa’s site at the time and she’s the queen of animal print, so I was inspired.
I loved it in the instant I pulled it on – it’s so different from my usually safe wardrobe, but still very wearable. And it’s beautifully made – lined and so flatteringly tailored. I wavered, but my more-stylish younger sister and Twitter assured me that it was a keeper.
And so I kept.
I paired it with a mustard yellow shirt I’ve owned for ages (that has gold buttons down the back, but I am not talented enough to figure out how to take a photo from behind.) and raspberry-colored tights. I wore flats in a marron/raspberry color.
The great thing about this skirt is that it’s almost a neutral – I can wear it with warm colors or cool colors or patterns or solids. I’m so glad I went out of my comfort zone. It’s the perfect sort of piece to add to a smaller wardrobe – versatile and fun.
I attempted some winged eyeliner. Don’t look at my other eye. It doesn’t match. My hair? Four day hair, baby. Gross yet admirable at the same time.
I got the necklace from my sister when I was in her wedding last year. I wear it all the time. You’ll see as I do future outfit posts. It goes with everything and adds the perfect touch of fun-yet-classy.
This isn’t an outfit I’d wear for a day at home, but I’d wear this outfit to work (which I did) or to a family gathering or to a dressier event. (I wore it at the Blathering!)
This is the face I make when I wear animal print. I don’t even know.
(I cleaned my mirror after taking these photos. If nothing else, these outfit posts remind me that I should probably make my bed and clean my mirror.)

I never used to like animal prints ever- I pictured them on some Jersey mob wife or something. But lately, I’ve really been liking them. I think I may need to add some leopard print to my closet!

Haha- that was my first thought too! Jersey wife or a Real Housewife of Somewhere. With collagen lips.
BUT I love this! I’m rethinking the animal prints as I type…

AHMAHGAD you are SO adorable. <3 This outfit is amazing – love the skirt, it's SO you. I think animal print can be a yay or a nay… If you're in head-to-toe cheetah print… That would probably be a nay. But one, *maybe* two pieces = yes! I also love the idea of taking an animal print bottom and pairing it with a shirt with the animal on it. Or a plain shirt, with matching animal jewelry. <3 Long comment is long. :P

So cute! It looks comfortable, yet also professional and stylish too. :)

Um, hi, love this. I think people think I’m the kind of person who would (loudly) wear animal print, but I’ve only had one animal print item of clothing in my life (a snakeskin print dress in 10th grade—that counts, right?) and have steered clear of it since then. But, I could totally go this muted route. Love the pairing!

I LOVE this outfit. You look great. And high five on the four-day hair! I’m a fan of minimal washing and generally go with a three-day schedule. I’m always proud when I can stretch it to four. (Perhaps I need to work on more worthy things to be proud of.)

(OK, your new comment editing thing? AWESOME. I didn’t even need to change anything and I kept clicking like hey! I can edit my comment! how cool!)

THAT is four day hair for you? My hair has turned sentient by day four. Sentient and evil.

such a cute outfit!!! I find that when it comes to clothes, it’s always fun to step out of your comfort zone.
I happen to be VERY comfortable in animal print (you can take the girl outta jersey but….) and look for it when it comes to shoes, accessories, clothes, and anything else. I just find leopard to be a great and sassy neutral print.

SO cute! I like your hair pulled up with that outfit too!

I love this! SUCH a flattering look on you, & you’re brave for wearing animal print AND three patterns! I’m so fashion illiterate that if I wear one pattern, everything else I wear must be black or otherwise similarly neutral. Colors are scary!

I love this outfit, and your bangs! You are super trendy and adorable as ever!
