The refrigerator is bare. My Etsy shop is on vacation mode. My email is set to auto-respond. Our bags are packed. We have a Google Doc with our packing list. Our gas tank is full (though we need an oil change).
Tomorrow morning, we’re waking up and leaving immediately for our farm vacation.
Yes, a farm vacation. After visiting our dear friend in Ithaca (hurray for hippie towns!), we’re staying on a farm for nine days in (very) rural western Massachusetts. There is no cell phone service, no internet, and no noise. There are no sights to see, there are no shops to peruse, there are no restaurants to visit. It’s a vacation of just being, not doing.
Simply saying the words, “There is no internet and no cell phone service,” fills me a sense of relief. No emails to answer, to Facebook messages to respond to, no Twitter to catch up on, no voice mails to listen to, no unfinished items on my to do lists, no frantic feeling at the end of each day: What didn’t I get done today? What emails are left unanswered? What ball did I drop?
It will just be us. The farm. Pancakes. Books. Walks. And whatever else we fill our days with. I’m intensely craving this simplicity.
We visited this farm nearly four years ago during our honeymoon. We stayed in a cottage on the farm after three days in Boston and it was amazing. It was refreshing, it was clarifying, and it was utterly quiet. And since I forgot my camera during our honeymoon four years ago (I KNOW), I’m hoping I’m able to make up for it a bit. Though now we’ll have a baby in the photos with us. :)
While I’m gone, I’ll be sharing some posts from the past. I know the visitors to this blog have changed in the past three years, so I have a few posts on friendship, marriage, careers, and such that I’m unearthing from the vault, dusting off, and re-posting. Speaking of marriage, I guest posted last week for Allison about marriage and sacrifice. (Bonus: dorky wedding photo of us.)
(Oh, hey: If you’re still interested in advertising next month, I’ll be finalizing it when I come back. Putting life on hold. Yay.)
