This week:
We went to a gymnastics place for open gym play with a new friend. We’ve seen her and her daughter every week so far, which has been good for me as a mother and for my kids to have a playmate.
I went out to dinner with one of Mike’s coworkers who I like a whole lot. It was a really great meal (Indian) and a great conversation about everything from sharing a car (she and her spouse do, as well) to the lure and lies of retail therapy (oh, but Target makes me so happy).
I feel pretty content and good about being here – I’ve made more connections with new potential friends and such than I have in years and am getting out a lot exploring the region. Still miffed about the cost of living, though.
Theo had his first well visit with their pediatrician, which turned into a sick visit because he has an ear infection. I asked about his speech, since he only says a handful of words, but she was unconcerned. I remember having the same worries about Gabe, but he talks a ton now. In four years, I’m sure I’ll have another chatterbox on my hands telling me stories about his imaginary friend.
I met with a local guy who does websites and computer hardware help. He found me through Google, is retiring, and wants to pass along all of his clients to me. I’m pretty stoked about it! A total jackpot. This is why SEO is important, I suppose!
It’s been gorgeous – blue skies and colorful leaves and just a bit chilly but still warm enough to go for long walks.
I made raw vegan brownies (not exactly like brownies, but super tasty), applesauce, and butternut squash and kidney bean stew (SO good).
I discovered Money for the Rest of Us (thanks, San!), a great podcast about money, the economy, and personal finance. I’ve been devouring episodes and learning a ton. I really love his perspective and style.
I read Produce More Content in Less Time, which was super long but also full of amazing content.
I wrote Working from Home Tips & Time Management Strategies.
I favorited this tweet. BEST.
I got this app to try out yet another habits app. I like that it can automatically load your health info on your phone!
I bought some more of my favorite protein powder for my morning smoothies.
I watched Genevieve’s Renovation on Netflix.
Looking forward to a weekend of exploring our new state (and maybe the neighboring state)!

Wow, sounds like things are going well – & what an incredible jackpot from that guy who’s retiring! I’m so impressed with how quickly you’re making friends. As you know, I made exactly none when I moved to unknown places, so I’m really glad you’re doing a better job of it. :)

I know it can be SO much harder once you’re settled to make connections, so I’m starting off with a running leap before hibernating for the entire winter. ;) (I think I also take the pressure of myself by acknowledging I probably won’t find a new BFF, but a warm body to talk to is all I need.
Ha.)

I love all the exploring you guys are doing! Very impressive! I’m glad you are doing pretty well so far! Yes the cost of living is a huge problem. SOme day I’d love to read about changes you’e made due to that. Only because I feel like I often read budget/money saving tips and I’m like ahhh none of these apply! haha

Oh yay, I am really glad you like Money for the rest of us as much as I do :) You’re welcome!
Also, that is fantastic that this guy found you through Google and wants to pass on his clients to you since he’s retiring! Jackpot for sure!
I am also happy to hear you’re making new friends… you’re on it, lady!

Hi, I am not able to see the pictures properly on Firefox, could it be my set up? They look huge :O
Ashley says
Oh no! Thanks for letting me know. I just tried to fix them – hope it works!

Sounds like a fabulous week, especially for the new clients, woo! That is awesome. And so glad you’re settling into your new home, but boo to expensive living.

This is a fun read! As parent I want my kids to engage in physical activities such as running. Not only it will benefit them a lot, I also want them not to be addicted in gadgets so much. Glad you and your family are having a great time!
