[March Update]
Get caught up, work-wise | Not so much. Although spring break this week has helped me get closer to caught up, little projects seem to keep popping up that throw me off schedule. Like a client who decides to order more services (yay!) or awesome projects that have a tight deadline. Regardless, things are going quite well in my design world, and I continue to feel incredibly fulfilled and happy with the work that I do with Little Leaf. I’m slowly but surely inching toward a sustainable salary with it, which delights me very much. (Thank you, dear friends, for all the referrals and support you’ve sent me!)
Start training for my half marathon again | I ran farther today than I ever have in my entire life: 7.15 miles. Training has been going well since I restarted a few weeks ago. I have a sense of “you cannot skip this run because you have a HALF MARATHON soon” that helps motivate me. That and a sign on my bathroom mirror that reads “13.1 in 27.” I change the number of days every day. You know, just so the sense of urgency remains in the forefront of my mind. My feet are aching a lot, but I’m unsure if it’s related to an Actual Problem or just Way More Use Than These Puppies Have Ever Seen. I do love the lightweight shoes I run in (completely corrected my knee problem that plagued me for years), but might need to get other shoes for long runs? Oh, running. You are tricky.
[April Intentions]
Get off the Computer by 9:30 | I AM NOT KIDDING. DO IT.
Create Business Cards | Despite designing them for other people, I don’t have business cards for Little Leaf-slash-me. I want to remedy this month!
Cold Email One Company or Potential Client | Although most of my business is word-of-mouth, I also want to consciously choose what sort of clients I get. Plus, how will I get those dream clients if I don’t reach out to them? This sort of scares me. I must be honest
More Marketing: Write a Mission Statement for Little Leaf & Write a “How I Work” Page for Website
I am super business-minded this month – and that’s because summer is right around the corner! Summer is when Mike and I are out of our normal jobs and need to find other sources of income. The perk of being an hourly school employees is getting the summer off…but the challenge is not actually getting paid for that time. Last summer, we drew heavily from our savings, but I’m really hoping we’re able to rely on my business and Mike’s summer job to make it work.

Ah, how I love these monthly goals posts. They really center me and get me started with thinking intentionally about each month. I highly recommend.
(They don’t fix everything, though. With me training for a half marathon and ramping up business, and a toddler who’s been especially clingy and attention-hungry lately, there is a pile of pots and pans that don’t seem to wash themselves. It’s a hot mess.)

I’m totally stealing your idea to write 13.1 in (35) days on my bathroom mirror!

It’s part-terrifying, part-motivating. Are you doing the Pittsburgh one?
Lindsey says
Yup! On May 6th! I’m excited but super nervous!

Great goals for April!

You’re such a motivation to me to find and make time to work hard from home. If I want (read: need) to make a go at being a WAHM then I need to buckle down and get focused. You blog & tweets are constantly challenging me to rethink things until I make them work and work well!

It’s SO HARD to focus. Especially with a little toddler destroying everything. It just means naptime is GO TIME. ;)

Have you ever gotten fitted for shoes? My knee issues were due to my pronation, and once I got shoes with the proper cushioning and stability, I’ve had hardly any problems with my knees. Even with all of my long runs for my half :) The perfect shoes really are key, and they’re different for everyone! Good luck with your April goals :)

I love how you have all these additional work goals this month, on top of actually getting work done AND you want to spend less time on the computer? Time to make some magic happen, my friend! hee hee hee

Hahaha. Touche! Maybe I need to wake up at 5 am? Except…nope.

I think that Little Leaf might be a great fit for http://www.glosite.com. It is an online wedding invitation/website company. I am using it for my wedding, and I love it, but they could use some more designs like yours!

Oh cool! Thanks. I’m totally going to look into that!
